Citation of research data

In the case of research data, the same as in the case of scientific publications, it is obligatory to cite the sources used. The form of the bibliographic description depends on the chosen citation style (e.g. APA, Chicago, Harvard, MLA) and it is most often determined by the publisher.

The bibliographic description should include the following components:

  • author(s),
  • year,
  • title,
  • place of deposit (e.g. name of repository),
  • version (e.g. Version v1.1),
  • persistent identifier (e.g. DOI).

If the research data has a DOI number assigned to it, the DOI Citation Formatter can be used to create a correct bibliographic description according to the publication’s citation style.
