Journal Checker Tool (JCT)

Journal Checker Tool (JCT) is a platform where you can check:

  • If the journal provides open access
  • If you can publish under the terms of the license CC BY
  • If you can publish without an embargo
  • If you can keep the copyright as an author

How to search?

You have to type a journal title or ISSN number or your founder name (e.g. NCN), and your affiliated institution name.

Through Journal Checker Tool (JCT) you can check if your data is compatible with the Plan S

  • If the journal provides fully open access according to Plan S
  • If the journal is under a transformative contract led by the founder institution (in the polish case is mostly NCN)
  • If the journal is transforming into a fully open access
  • If the journal allows for a subscription and self-archiving (e.g. postprint in the affiliated institution repository)

What kind of search results can we get and how to interpret them?

It is very important to get information that a journal fulfils the requirements of the Plan S.

If you want to check additional requirements e.g. information about license terms and conditions, you will see following information:

In that case, it is recommended to check out the publishing policy (you can visit Jisc Open policy finder or the open access programme provided by KUE).

If the journal does not fulfils the requirements of the Plan S, you have to change the journal for your publication.
