Jisc’s open policy finder is a free service, which allowed you to check the journal’s policy according to copyright and open access.  

What you can check there: 

  • If the journal is fully open 
  • If you can preprint or postprint 
  • If the journal is registered to DOAJ 

The service provides the following information about a journal:

What is the difference between a preprint and a posprint?

Preprint is the finished version of the article before review and verification.  

Postprint is the version of the article after the reviewing process with the amendments. 

How to search? 

You have to type journal title or ISSN number or publisher name.  

How records look like (e.g. if we want to check Entrepreneurial Business and Economic Review) 

What type of information is important regarding e.g. NCN grants? 

  • The information about APC (please check if the selected journal takes part in the open access programme.
  • If the journal is in the DOAJ base 
  • Publishing policy 
  • If there is an embargo 
  • The type of licence (preferred CC BY or CC BY ND) 
  • Is there a possibility to preprint or postprint (in the case of a closed-access journal)
